PHP #2002 Error on OSX 10.6

Don't know what happened really but after a recent security update my version of PHPMyAdmin started giving me a nasty error:

os x #2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)

I poked around a lot of forums but couldn't really find anything that helped me out until I discovered this old thread from 2006. Let me save you some time..

Step 1. Copy the default php.ini to your own file
sudo cp /prviate/etc/php.ini.default /private/etc/php.ini

Step 2. Edit the line for the default socket (line 1216 on my system) and change the value to this:

mysql.default_socket = /private/tmp/mysql.sock

Step 3. Restart apache
sudo apachectl restart

And with that you should be done! Thanks to .Joel who posted the solution on the Macworld forums.
